What to expect
Contact hours drop and independent work rises, which catches out people who were good at school. The first term is mostly social and logistical adjustment. Homesickness around weeks three to six is extremely common and rarely discussed. Grades usually dip before the method clicks.
How to prepare
- Understand the funding fully: fees, loans, grants, and what living costs actually are.
- Register with a local doctor in your first week.
- Learn the assessment structure early — what's weighted and what isn't.
- Build a weekly schedule that includes independent study as fixed time.
